EthOss® Making Waves in Dentistry

EthOss® Making Waves in Dentistry

We were thrilled to attend the latest EthOss event, Experience How Synthetic Materials Are Changing Grafting.

Hosted by representatives from both EthOss® Regeneration Ltd and Swallow Dental Supplies, the course took place aboard the SS Great Britain in Bristol.

Now a museum, The SS Great Britain was a passenger steamship designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for the Great Western Steamship Company's transatlantic service between Bristol and New York and was the longest passenger ship in the world from 1845 to 1854.

All Aboard for the Latest EthOss Event

Aboard ship, more than 30 of the country's leading dentists were treated to informative talks from renowned dental surgeon Dr Peter Fairbairn, Clinical Director of EthOss®. Speaking about his experience of using EthOss®, an innovative synthetic bone graft solution for dental implants, Dr Fairbairn treated delegates to case studies and details of how he has used the bone graft material in more than 1,000 cases - regularly achieving results of 50 per cent new bone in just 12 weeks.

What is EthOss?

EthOss® is a bi-phasic synthetic material made from a mixture of beta-tricalcium phosphate and calcium sulfate and is completely free from animal or human content. The unique composition of EthOss®, which has a built-in cell-occlusive barrier, removing the need for a separate collagen membrane, provides a highly stable graft.

The built-in membrane function prevents soft tissue ingress and helps to dramatically speed up healing times, by allowing the periosteum (and the related blood supply) direct contact with the graft site. This means surgical procedures can be completed much more quickly and reliably, benefitting both patient and dentist.

New and Progressive Materials and Techniques

Following the event, Dr Fairbairn said: "We were delighted to welcome so many dentists from across the UK to the SS Great Britain - a venue which is symbolic of the very peak in British engineering - to learn about new and progressive materials and techniques in the field of bone grafting.

"EthOss® is taking the field of bone grafting and implant placement to another level, providing significant benefits to both the dentist and the patient.”

Simple and Predictable

Dr Fairbairn was joined by Andrew Fish, an experienced dentist based in Jersey. Speaking on his experiences of using EthOss, Andrew said: "I’ve been using EthOss for a few years now and still feel like I’m somehow 'cheating'. If there is one thing my years of experience have taught me, it is that bone grafting should not be this simple and predictable!

"I was delighted to share my experiences with the material at the event in Bristol. It was great to see so many open-minded implantologists eager to learn about new technologies and techniques".
