Oxygen Therapy in Dentistry in Hospital Environment

Hospital dentistry is a growing field that recognizes the importance of oral health in overall health and wellness. Dental surgeons in hospitals work with a multidisciplinary team of professionals to provide holistic care to patients, including those undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, transplantation, prenatal care, and palliative care.

One area that has gained attention in recent years is oxygen therapy, which has been shown to play a critical role in wound healing and tissue repair. Blue®m products, developed by a team of Dutch researchers, use active oxygen (H2O2) to promote tissue repair, wound healing, bacterial plaque control, and bone formation acceleration. By delivering active oxygen directly to the site of treatment in a controlled manner, Blue®m acts as a messenger for repairing cells and eliminating pathogenic bacteria.

While the benefits of oxygen therapy are well established, it is important to note that more is not always better. Excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress may be harmful to some individuals, and the concentrations of hydrogen peroxide used in Blue®m products are not comparable to the high concentrations used in medicine as a disinfectant.

Conclusion: Hospital dentistry and the use of oxygen therapy in dentistry are important areas of research and practice that aim to provide comprehensive and effective care to patients. By working with a multidisciplinary team and using innovative products like Blue®m, dental surgeons in hospitals can continue to improve patient outcomes and overall quality of life.
