"A Massive Thank You" - Dentaid
We are delighted to reveal that our latest PDT EarthCare appeal for donations of hand instruments has been a tremendous success.
Thanks to your generous donations, we have been able to donate over 1700 instruments to Dentaid, a charity working to provide free dental care to poor, homeless and vulnerable people in the UK and around the world.
We have also been able to save over 30kg of old and broken hand instruments from entering landfills. This will help us take steps towards protecting our planet.

A message of thanks from Dentaid:
"It’s a sad fact that 70 per cent of the world’s population has no access to dental care. For example, in Malawi there are fewer than 50 dentists for a population of almost 19 million people – that’s about one dentist per 380,000 patients. As a result, millions are suffering the misery of untreated dental pain.
Founded in 1996, Dentaid is a UK-based charity that works tirelessly to improve access to safe, sustainable dental care and oral health programmes. By supplying dental equipment and funding outreach clinics, Dentaid supports dentists working in some of the poorest and most remote communities in the world. The charity also has a busy volunteering programme with teams of UK dental professionals working alongside Dentaid’s partners in Morocco, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi and Cambodia.
At most of Dentaid’s projects, there is no access to running water or electricity. Teams use simple dental techniques including hand scaling which is why Dentaid’s partnership with Swallow Dental is so beneficial. The company collects and donates scalers to Dentaid – saving thousands from landfill each year and ensuring that Dentaid’s partners have a steady supply of instruments.
Many of the scalers become part of Dentaid Boxes – entire dental surgeries that fit into a wheelie bin and can be used to set up dental clinics anywhere in the world.
In recent months, Dentaid has sent these boxes to Uganda, South Africa, Malawi and Jordan – where they will be used by a team providing dental care for Syrian refugees. Others are used by Dentaid’s volunteers and dental partners who run clinics in schools, orphanages, refugee camps, prisons and remote communities.
