Swallow Dental Join the Great British Spring Clean
Swallow Dental Big Bag Challenge

Our staff have been doing their bit to help clean up the environment. As part of Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean, our #LitterHeroes took to the streets of Silsden, West Yorkshire, to collect litter and clean up the local area.

Our Financial Controller, Annie Kilburn, and Social Media and Digital Marketing Executive, Lauren Bolland, donned protective gloves and grabbed their litter pickers to keep the local community clean and tidy.

“It felt great to be out making a difference.” Said Lauren.

“All we ask is for people to be responsible with their litter; throw it in a bin or take it home. Taking a little more care could really help make this a better world for us all.”

Over the course of the one-hour clean-up, the pair managed to fill six large waste sacks. Plastic bags, bottles and empty drinks cans were the most common finds, while a bag of empty mussel shells was by far the most intriguing.

Tackling the Problem

It is estimated that around 2.5 million pieces of litter are dropped in the UK every day, a figure that has increased by 500% since the 1960s. This leads to intensive clean-up operations, costing the taxpayer, on average, £1 billion, every year.

Every bag of litter removed from the environment makes a huge difference and can have a positive effect on the environment, our communities and local wildlife.

Litter-picking is a simple action that anyone can do to make an immediate and visible difference to their area. Furthermore, it can have a positive impact on your state of mind. 85 per cent of those who took part in 2022’s Great British Spring Clean reported feeling a greater sense of pride in their local area, while 74 per cent said it significantly improved their mood.

As part of our efforts to improve the local area and care for the environment, our staff will be taking part in regular litter picks around Swallow HQ and the surrounding area.
