PDS Plus Antibacterial Sutures
PDS Plus (Polydioxanone Suture with Antibacterial Protection)
PDS Plus is a synthetic, absorbable, monofilament suture composed of polydioxanone, available in dyed and undyed forms, and coated with the antibacterial agent Irgacare® MP (Triclosan).
Indications:
Soft tissue approximation
Pediatric cardiovascular procedures
Ophthalmic surgery (except corneal or scleral use)
Provides wound support for up to 6 weeks
Contraindications:
Prolonged (>6 weeks) use in tissues under high stress
Use with prosthetic devices (e.g., heart valves, synthetic grafts)
Patients with known triclosan allergy
Performance:
In vivo strength retention:
Sizes 4/0 and smaller: ~60% at 2 weeks, 40% at 4 weeks, 35% at 6 weeks
Sizes 3/0 and larger: ~80% at 2 weeks, 70% at 4 weeks, 60% at 6 weeks
Complete absorption occurs in 182–238 days
